Downtown Plan Details

Mozart

The project is located on Mathilda Avenue between Washington Avenue and Evelyn Avenue. It includes 450,000 square feet of Class A office space plus about 10,000 square feet of retail space. The retail space is located at the corner of Washington and Aries and on the corner of Evelyn Avenue and Frances Street. The three office buildings range from five to six stories. The maximum height is approximately 100 feet including the enclosed equipment penthouse.

Town Center Mall Construction on Hold

In May 2002, the mall’s lender foreclosed on the property. In September 2002, Mall owners filed for bankruptcy.

The owner of the Town Center Mall (Mall) is in negotiations for a sale of the Mall to a new developer and operator.

The proposed sale is part of a plan to avoid a foreclosure sale and generate new life into the Mall. The developer has endorsed the proposed reconstruction of Town Center Mall as recommended by the Downtown Design Plan. They hope to rebuild the entire mall, except for Macy’s, Target and the JC Penney’s buildings (these buildings are separately owned by those department stores). The new Mall will be an open-air shopping area that is closely linked to Murphy and Mathilda Avenues. It is intended to have major new tenants, attractive public areas and a new multi-screen theater complex.

Phase one of the Mall development will began with the June 4, 2003, closure of the upper level of Parking Deck (on Mathilda Avenue). Parking on the lower level remains open.

In the meantime, please continue to visit and shop Macy's and Target! They remain open and are a vital part of Downtown Sunnyvale."

Sunnyvale Multi-modal Transit Station (Caltrain)

This project included the construction of a five story 400-space parking structure, Caltrain ticketing facility and related improvements.

Phase I of the project included the parking structure, ticketing facility, and an area to securely accommodate 100 bicycles. It also included a transit plaza with a gateway roof structure connecting the parking structure and the ticketing building.

The transit plaza includes three automated ticket dispensers, three public telephones, outdoor seating, two electric vehicle chargers, and a water fountain.

Phase II included the demolition of the old Caltrain station. Additional Phase II components included 100 surface parking spaces, a shuttle drop off area, a passenger drop off zone and related surface and landscape improvements.
